I wanted to do this concept for ages before I finally got to, and now several months later it has a DD - it means so much! QF and I are very proud of our baby!  And yes the stick was for poking the plague victims, instead of touching them. These doctors weren't really doctors in most cases, just people with a vague idea of what they were doing, to say "Yes, he's got the plague, he'll die."  It's weird because nobody seems to know the plague doctor image - I mean, some do, but it's not as well-known as, say, the grim reaper. For me, the two were almost synonymous throughout my childhood, and now that I've done these pictures I'm surprised how few people recognized what it was supposed to be - I mean, the streets when we did the pictures, people were like "Holy crap!" and "Wtf is that?" Not in a derogatory way, they just really didn't know.
